Henry Asante Twum, Director of Communications at the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has underscored that the selection of coaches for the country’s various national teams is primarily guided by their track record.
The GFA has recently announced new appointments for both newly established male and female national teams, as well as existing ones.
Notably, former Ghana international Godwin Attram has been appointed, coinciding with the formation of the U21 national team.
Twum emphasized that whenever there is a need for new appointments, the Executive Council meticulously reviews the candidates’ CVs to assess their achievements and suitability for the role.
” We look into what they have contributed to the sports and what they have decided to do after their careers. You realise that some of them veer into other spheres of the industry,” he told Citi Sports.
” There have been exceptions with the likes of Laryea Kingston, John Pantsil, Don Bortey, Sammy Adjei, Sani Mohammed and Otto Addo for instance all taking up coaching. Asamoah Gyan has also finished his license B course so I’m sure he’s in line for these kinds of opportunities in future.”
“whenever there is a vacuum for us to employ the executive council go into the CVs, what they have achieved individually, they look at what they have contributed to the sports secondly and decide on where they can best fit.”
Assisted by Nana Yaw Amankwah, Attram brings a wealth of experience, having played for prestigious clubs such as Silkeborg IF, PSV Eindhoven, and Accra Great Olympics.
The technical team of the U21 squad has been entrusted with the responsibility of nurturing talent and developing a well-rounded team capable of competing for trophies on the global stage.
This appointment aligns with the GFA’s philosophy launched in 2023, which prioritizes the nurturing of young talent and the establishment of a culture of excellence starting from grassroots football.
