I played my best football in Emirates – Asamoah Gyan

By Elvis DARKO, Accra

Ghanaian football icon Asamoah Gyan has made a bold declaration, stating that he played his best football during his time in the Emirates, particularly in Dubai.

While acknowledging that this statement may raise eyebrows among many, he expressed his conviction, saying, “I felt like that is where I played my best football.”

Reflecting on his decision to leave the English Premier League, widely regarded as one of the top leagues globally, Gyan admitted to facing numerous challenges.

However, he was determined to silence skeptics who doubted his abilities and believed his career was on the decline.

In a bid to prove his detractors wrong, Gyan channeled his efforts into delivering exceptional performances in the Emirates.

By showcasing his prowess on the field, he aimed to demonstrate that his career was far from over, contrary to popular belief.

Asserting his unique identity as “the only baby jet,” Gyan emphasized that while some may attempt to emulate him, they could never replicate his distinctive style and achievements.

As the all-time leading goal scorer in Ghana’s history and the African player with the highest number of goals in the World Cup, Gyan’s legacy in football is firmly established.

All Regional Games

The promotion of the All Regional Games, which aims to engage sports enthusiasts across Ghana, aligns with the momentum generated by the recently concluded African Games.

This initiative serves as a platform for identifying and nurturing young talents from all regions of the country.

However, concerns have been raised about the sustainability of the competition if the inaugural edition proves to be successful.

Scheduled to commence in November 2024, the first edition of the All Regional Games will feature regional activities taking place between June 9 and 30.

The national festival is set to be held in November, showcasing athletes competing across nine diverse sports disciplines, including Football, Athletics, Volleyball, Basketball, Tennis, Table Tennis, Boxing, E-sports, and Arm-wrestling.

To generate excitement and support for the upcoming Games, a regional tour is planned to kick off on April 16.

This tour aims to raise awareness and garner enthusiasm from communities across Ghana.

With the backing of influential figures like Gyan, the All Regional Games hold promise for fostering sporting excellence and national pride in Ghana.
