Ghana International Bank poised to make huge impact-CEO

By Isaac AIDOO, Accra

Chief Executive Officer and Executive Director of Ghana International Bank plc, Mr Dean Adansi has on the occasion of the bank’s 65th anniversary pledged that the bank is poised to become much bigger, and be a force to reckon with when it comes to trade finance across sub-Saharan Africa.

He pledged the bank’s readiness to make a huge impact on the lives of people across its key markets.

Speaking at the launch of the Bank’s 65th anniversary in Accra last night, Mr Adansi said GHIB was ready to revolutionise trade and investments across Africa and be the go-to financial institution when it comes to trade finance.

With a long history in trade finance, Mr Adansi welcomed the African Continental Free Trade Area, stating that the Ghana International Bank was ready to take full advantage of the trade deal   to support businesses to increase intra-Africa trade.

“We welcome the trade agreement and are ready to take advantage of it because it is to promote trade within Africa. Trade between sub-Saharan Africa and the rest of the world is on a low scale so if there are opportunities for increased trade within the frontiers of Africa, we think it makes a lot of sense for that kind of cooperation to take place and for tariffs and barriers to be broken down so there can be more trade; it creates wealth across our markets and it’s a positive thing,” Mr Adansi stated.

According to Mr Adansi, the bank had seen its fair share of challenges however the visionary leadership had ensured resilience, which had in the end produced impressive growth.

He pointed out that on the occasion of the bank’s 65th birthday, the bank had weathered the years in a resilient fashion.

“We are happy report that we have been flexible and innovative, sometimes going through painful growth periods to deliver sustainable performance,” the GHIB CEO stated.

He pledged that the bank, recognized as THE Pan African Trade Bank which is systemically significant across the continent, will continue to uphold the highest standards of risk management and operational excellence.

Governor of the Bank of Ghana and Chairman of the GHIB, Dr Ernest Addison noted that the Bank is resurgent and was aggressively pursuing growth.

According to Dr Addison, the poise, posture and skill deployed by management and staff of the bank in its medium-term plans left him in no doubt that the trajectory of profit and operational excellence the Bank was enjoying will carry on far into the future, to a centenary celebration and beyond.

Dr Addison maintained that it was a matter of strategic importance that “we project and establish Ghana as the gateway on the continent to the major financial hubs of Africa and the world. Our Bank in London, GHIB, is key to this, and I urge all the Bank’s here to continue to deepen their correspondent and other banking activities with GHIB.”
