GAF to plant 2024 Green Ghana Day commemorative tree on June 7
The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Samuel A. Jinapor, MP, has praised the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) for their significant contributions to various initiatives and policies implemented by the Ministry.
During a courtesy visit to the Chief of Defence Staff, Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah, Mr Jinapor highlighted the collaborative efforts between the Ministry and GAF in tackling illegal mining, land guard issues, and executing the government’s flagship afforestation program, the Green Ghana Project.
Expressing gratitude on behalf of the Ministry, Jinapor acknowledged the consistent support provided by the Armed Forces in executing projects that benefit the nation.
He revealed that the 2024 commemorative tree planting ceremony for the fourth edition of the Green Ghana Project, with a target of planting 10 million trees, will be held at Burma Camp, the base of the Ghana Armed Forces.
The ceremony will be inaugurated by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to mark the official commencement of the nationwide tree planting exercise.
Given the significance of hosting this year’s edition at the GAF headquarters, Jinapor sought early engagement and support from the CDS to ensure the success of the project.
With a target of planting 10 million trees on June 7, 2024, Jinapor appealed to Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah to collaborate with the Ministry by providing logistical support for the initiative.
In response, Lieutenant General Thomas Oppong-Peprah expressed gratitude for the Minister’s congratulatory message on his appointment as CDS and assured of strengthened collaboration between the Armed Forces and the Ministry under his leadership.
He pledged the full commitment of the Army in providing the necessary resources to ensure the success of the Green Ghana Project.
The Green Ghana Project, now in its fourth year, remains the government’s flagship forestry initiative aimed at enhancing environmental sustainability and promoting afforestation efforts nationwide.
This year, the Ministry aims to plant over 10 million trees on June 7, 2024, with the support of various stakeholders, including the Ghana Armed Forces.
