Be cybersecurity conscious- Ametorgoh rallies society

By Christabel Oboshie ANNAN, Accra

Digital Marketing Strategist Maximus Ametorgoh has advised citizens to be cybersecurity conscious and to refrain from assigning blame to telecommunication companies in the event of security breaches.

He advocated for individuals to assume responsibility for their security and adhere to the prescribed protocols provided by network service providers.

Ametorgoh offered actionable advice, imploring individuals to take proactive measures such as keeping their SIM cards active, ensuring physical possession of their SIM cards, and exercising caution when entrusting sensitive tasks to third parties.

He noted that perpetrators of this fraud often exploit vulnerabilities in identity verification processes, using stolen or falsified identification to falsely claim ownership of a victim’s Sim Card

He explained that individuals must remain vigilant and recognize red flags to prevent falling victim to Sim Swap Fraud.

“Among the warning signs to watch out for are sudden loss of mobile network connectivity, unexpected changes in account settings or passwords, and unauthorized transactions or changes in financial accounts linked to the Sim Card” he stressed.

To safeguard against Sim Swap Fraud, Ametorgoh advised individuals to take proactive measures such as keeping one’s SIM card active and always make sure that sim cards are in hand.

Additionally, he warned against entrusting sensitive tasks such as registration or transactions to individuals they do not fully trust.

Speaking against the backdrop of recent persecution of cases linked to Momo Fraud, he underscored the imperative for individuals to remain vigilant and discern red flags to avoid falling prey to Sim Swap Fraud.
