Ghana jumps to 6th position with 46 medals    

In a stunning turnaround, Team Ghana has catapulted into the top 10 on the medal table standings at the 2023 African Games, marking a remarkable resurgence in their performance and showcasing their prowess on the continental stage.

One of the standout moments of Ghana’s success at the games was the debut of arm wrestling as a competitive sport.

Despite a rocky start for the host nation, the Ghanaian arm wrestling team secured an astonishing 40 medals in just two days, propelling Ghana into the upper echelons of the medal table.

In total, Team Ghana amassed an impressive haul of 46 medals, comprising 6 gold, 22 silver, and 15 bronze.

This remarkable achievement saw Ghana overtaking formidable opponents such as Eritrea, Madagascar, Morocco, Cameroon, Zimbabwe, and Libya on the medal table.

Winnifred Ntumi, in particular, made a notable impact in weightlifting, clinching three medals, including one gold and two silvers.

Meanwhile, Ghana’s swimmer and team captain Abeiku Jackson contributed to the medal tally with impressive achievements in Men’s 50m and 100m Butterfly, securing one silver and one bronze medal.

Despite their triumphs, Ghana remains focused on seizing further medal opportunities, with both the Men’s and Women’s football teams advancing to the semifinals, and the athletics team set to commence their events today.

The impressive showing at the 2023 African Games reflects Ghana’s commitment to excellence and determination to shine on the continental stage.

With a 15th place finish and 13 medals in the 2019 edition, Ghana’s ascent to the top 10 underscores their dedication to elevating their performance and showcasing their sporting talent to the world.

As Egypt continues to lead the overall medal table with a staggering total of 154 medals, followed closely by Nigeria with 76 medals, Ghana’s success serves as a source of inspiration and pride for the nation, highlighting the potential for further achievements in the future.
