Majority Caucus refutes alleged changes to its front bench in Parliament
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Majority Caucus in Parliament, on Tuesday, dismissed alleged reports suggesting changes to its leadership at the front bench.
Mr Joseph Osei-Owusu, the NPP Member of Parliament (MP) for Bekwai and First Deputy Speaker, clarified the situation at a press conference, stating, “Speculations about potential shifts in leadership within the Majority caucus were untrue.” He emphasized the stability and unity among Caucus members.
Mr Osei-Owusu addressed the media, asserting, “…The publications that are going around are false, the majority caucus has not made any changes to its leadership, and the majority caucus has not contemplated making any changes to its leadership.”
He urged the Parliamentary Press Corps to inform the public to ignore any such publications.
Furthermore, Mr Osei-Owusu expressed confidence in the current leadership of the Caucus, affirming, “we have confidence in our current leadership and the status quo shall remain.” He emphasized that any decision regarding leadership changes would be made solely by the Caucus itself.
He also mentioned that the Majority Caucus was unaware of any external attempts to make changes to its leadership, reiterating that such decisions rested solely with the Caucus.
Mr Osei-Owusu urged members of the Caucus to maintain unity to effectively address legislative matters and pursue the Government’s agenda.
Earlier reports circulating in sections of the media on Monday, February 19, alleged potential changes in leadership, including the replacement of Mr Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the current Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, by Mr Alexander Afenyo-Markin, the current Deputy Majority Leader. Other alleged changes included shifts in roles for other Caucus members.
However, Mr Osei-Owusu’s statement clarified that these reports were unfounded and urged the public to disregard them.
