Academia, industry collaboration vital-Prof. Acakpovi

The Vice-Chancellor of Accra Technical University, Professor Amevi Acakpovi, has underscored the significance of enhancing students’ visibility and trust as a means to bridge the gap between academia and industry.
Emphasizing the need for active engagement between educational institutions and industries, he stressed the importance of preparing students for real-world challenges.
Professor Acakpovi believes that fostering a symbiotic relationship between academia and the professional landscape will contribute to the holistic development of students.
He expressed these views during a press soiree in Accra, where he acknowledged the media for its crucial role in disseminating information for Accra Technical University.
Highlighting the necessity for industry players to participate in curriculum development, the Vice-Chancellor stated, “This will help the University update its curriculum to meet industry requirements, enabling students to confront challenges in society.”
He also emphasized the role of industry players in providing training to students, aiding in their development to face challenges within their respective fields.
Prof. Acakpovi mentioned the university’s initiative of launching a program advisory committee, where collaboration with industries occurs to develop curriculums that align with current industry needs.
When questioned about the institution’s transition from a polytechnic to a university, Professor Acakpovi indicated that the conversion has been worthwhile.
He noted that it has brought solutions to the table, providing the university with the opportunity to develop tailor-made programs.
Additionally, he highlighted increased competition of skills in the industry and the acquisition of numerous pieces of equipment as a result of this transition.
Furthermore, the Vice-Chancellor stated that the university now admits more students, has the capacity to administer higher education, and is actively seeking full accreditation for its Master’s Programs.
Overall, Prof.r Acakpovi’s remarks underscore the commitment of Accra Technical University to bridging the gap between academia and industry, ensuring that students are well-prepared for the challenges of the professional world.
