ECG Accra East Region invests GH₵20m into 80 projects in 2023-Ing. Otoo

The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG), Accra East Region, has demonstrated its commitment to improving power supply reliability and customer satisfaction by investing over GH₵20 million in 80 major development projects throughout its operational districts in 2023.

General Manager for the Accra East Region, Ing. Bismark Otoo, highlighted various initiatives undertaken to address power supply challenges.

Among the key projects, the installation of 50 new 200 Kilo-volt-amperes (KVA) transformers was highlighted to alleviate strain on substations in specific areas.

The region also focused on extending low voltage supply to Dodowa and Mampong districts, converting weak and multi-jointed 11kv underground cables into overhead lines, and upgrading overloaded substations.

Ing. Bismark Otoo emphasized that completed projects have already been commissioned, benefiting communities such as Okpoi Gonno, Teshie Yomo Specs, Tseaddo, Teshie Guest Inn, Lakeside Estate, New Legon, East Legon Hills, Amrahia, Frafraha, Burma Camp, Oyarifa, and Pantang. The projects involved the replacement of sagging high tension lines, burnt poles, and weak insulators.

Despite financial constraints leading to the suspension of certain projects, the General Manager remains optimistic about undertaking further development projects in 2024.

He acknowledged the recovery of about GH₵10.3 million (GH₵10,318,683) from customers engaged in illegal connections from January to November 2023.

Ing. Otoo urged customers to avoid illegal connections and encouraged the public to report any suspected activities.

As part of efforts to enhance customer convenience, he encouraged customers to pay their bills or purchase credits through the ECG Mobile App or the USSD code *226#.

The commitment to critical infrastructure development reflects ECG’s dedication to providing safe, reliable, and high-quality power supply to the region.
