Officials from the National Security Ministry in Ghana conducted a stakeholder engagement with event organizers across the country to discuss security arrangements for the upcoming Christmas period.
The meeting addressed concerns related to increased end-of-year activities, particularly associated with initiatives like ‘Beyond the Return’ and ‘DecemberinGH.’
During the session, organizers received a presentation on the security situation in the West African region and were briefed on potential implications for Ghana’s security.
They were sensitized to specific measures aimed at reducing the risk of their events being targeted by security threats.
Key recommendations included selecting event locations with capacities matching expected patron numbers, ensuring sufficient exit and access control points, and staying vigilant for suspicious activities or individuals.
Organizers were encouraged to inform authorities during the planning stage to deploy adequate police and national security personnel.
Akwasi Agyeman, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA), emphasized the importance of industry players partnering with the Ministry of National Security to ensure safety during the festive season, considering the country’s location in a potentially turbulent region.
