GFA bans Bofoakwa Tano from using Sunyani Coronation Park

By Daniel ODURO, Accra

The Executive Council of the Ghana Football Association (GFA) has taken decisive action, ordering a temporary ban on Bofoakwa Tano FC from using the Sunyani Coronation Park as its home venue.

This decision, effective immediately, follows regrettable incidents that unfolded after the matchday 11 clash between Bofoakwa Tano FC and Nsoatreman FC on November 19, 2023.

In a released statement on Monday, November 20, 2023, the GFA asserted that the decision aligns with GFA Premier League Regulations Article 14(2), which empowers the GFA to order the closure of any league center if the safety of clubs, match officials, or spectators cannot be guaranteed.

While the Disciplinary Committee is set to hear the case in accordance with relevant regulations, the Competitions Department is directed to determine alternative venues for Bofoakwa Tano FC’s subsequent home matches, respecting Article 14(3) of the Premier League Regulations.

The GFA expressed strong disapproval of the conduct exhibited by Bofoakwa Tano FC’s supporters, condemning the violations of the Safety and Security Regulations and the Premier League Regulations during the match.

The GFA Prosecutors are tasked with examining video evidence and match reports to formulate appropriate charges promptly.

Bofoakwa Tano FC is urged to collaborate with the Regional Police for the arrest of individuals involved in the attack on the away team and the holding of match officials hostage.

The GFA emphasizes the importance of clubs fulfilling their promise to the Inspector General of Police, as discussed in engagements with the Ghana Police Service.

The Competitions Department is directed to determine venues for Bofoakwa Tano FC’s upcoming home matches until the case is resolved, with consideration given to the distance to be traveled by away teams. The GFA issues a stern warning to all members, particularly clubs, stressing that any harassment or attack on players, team officials, match officials, or media personnel will be met with severe and swift consequences.

The GFA’s stance reinforces a commitment to maintaining the integrity, safety, and security of football events and ensuring a conducive environment for all stakeholders involved in the beautiful game.
