Sod cut for Agenda 111 hospital in Adentan Municipality
A ground breaking ceremony marked the commencement of a project to construct a 100-bed hospital near the CSIR-Animal Research Institute in Fafraha, Greater Accra Region.
The hospital project is scheduled to be completed by the end of October 2024, bringing crucial healthcare services to the region.
This ambitious project involves the collaborative efforts of four contractors: DBS Industries Limited, BKT Construction Ltd, BHAK Company Ltd, and Community and Social Investment Ltd.
The project manager, Mr. Foster Osae-Akonnor, confirmed that all outstanding issues related to land acquisition have been resolved during pre-construction meetings.
Consequently, construction work officially started on November 1, 2023, in accordance with the agreed timeline, which ensures the hospital’s completion within a year.
Mr. Osae-Akonnor pointed out that this project falls within Zone Three of the Agenda 111 initiative, encompassing parts of the Eastern Region and Greater Accra Region.
He also highlighted that Greater Accra Region had been facing land litigation challenges, underscoring the importance of ensuring the project’s quality and value for money.
The Greater Accra Regional Minister, Mr. Henry Quartey, reiterated that due process was followed in acquiring the land for the hospital project.
He expressed concern over encroachment on government lands and unauthorized constructions, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Mr. Quartey encouraged local artisans to participate in the project, urging them to avoid theft of building materials, which could lead to prosecution.
He called on residents, beneficiaries, and stakeholders in the area to support the project for its successful completion, commending the media for its role in promoting order and discipline in the region.
Mr. Daniel Alexander Nii-Noi Adumuah, the Municipal Chief Executive, emphasized that accessible, equitable, and high-quality healthcare was a top priority for the government.
He noted the absence of a hospital with the capacity required in the Adentan Municipality, which hosts 54 health facilities, including four private clinics and one polyclinic.
The hospital project aligns with the government’s commitment to improve healthcare access and contribute to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals.
In the initial stages of the project, securing a 12-acre parcel of land proved challenging. However, the intervention of the Regional Minister facilitated the acquisition of the current site, ensuring the project’s advancement.
Mr. Mohammed Adamu Ramadan, the Member of Parliament for Adentan, pledged to lobby for support to expedite the hospital’s completion and alleviate the suffering of the local population.
