432km of roads constructed in Volta Region unprecedented – President Akufo-Addo
President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has shared the remarkable achievements of his government in road infrastructure development during the celebration of the 2023 Hogbetsotso festival in Anloga, Volta Region.
The President declared that since taking office in January 2017, his administration has completed an extraordinary 432 kilometers of roads, a feat that he described as unparalleled.
These notable road projects have been successfully executed under President Akufo-Addo’s leadership and have already made a substantial impact on transportation in the region.
Some of the major accomplishments include the dualization of the 22km Ho main road, the 30km Have to Kpando road, and the upgrading of the Golokwati-Wli road.
Other completed projects encompass the resealing of the 15km Asikuma junction to Ho road, the regravelling of the 30km Frankadua to Adidome road, and the surfacing of the 17.8km Matse-Klave and Lume Atsiame-Avetokoe roads, among others.
These road projects have not only enhanced connectivity but have also contributed to economic growth and improved the overall quality of life for residents in the Volta Region.
They have opened up opportunities for trade and commerce, created better access to essential services, and made transportation safer and more efficient.
The President also highlighted the asphaltic overlay on 15km of town roads in Hohoe and the bitumen surfacing of feeder roads, including the 15.6km Akwetey-Adaklu-Waya feeder road, Bume-Danyigba-Anfoega road, Danyigba Town Roads, Dra-Sabadu road, and Bume-Agata road.
These developments have significantly improved transportation networks and reduced travel time, further promoting economic development in the region.
In addition, President Akufo-Addo confirmed that ongoing projects include the 5.3km Ho By-Pass dualization project, currently at 37% completion, and the upgrading of 8km of selected roads in Ketu South, which is 48% complete.
These projects will further enhance the region’s transportation infrastructure.
Discussing the Eastern Corridor Roads, the President highlighted substantial progress. He compared the state of the roads at the end of 2016, where only 135km of Eastern Corridor Roads were in good condition, representing 27%. By the end of 2022, 366 kilometers, equivalent to 74% of the corridor, had improved from poor to good condition, resulting in improved transportation and trade along the corridor.
This has undoubtedly boosted economic activities in the region.
To address uncompleted road contracts, the President announced the termination of contracts awarded to contractors for various road projects that were left unfinished.
This includes the Aflao – Denu – Dzodze – Ave Afiadenyigba – Ave Dakpa – Ho Road, Denu – Havedzi – Keta road, Srogbe – Anyanui road, Agortoe Junction – Tregbui – Adutor road, Anyako – Seva road, and the Weta – Metsrikasa road. Many of these contracts were terminated due to contractors’ failure to complete the works, and the Ministry of Roads and Highways will repackage these projects for re-award.
Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo announced that the government has secured $89 million in funding from the African Development Bank for the construction of essential road infrastructure.
These projects include the 29.35 km Asutsuare Junction – Volivo road, the 39.2 km Dufor Adidome- Asikuma Junction Road, the 23.9 km Asutsuare Junction – Aveyime road, and two interchanges at Dufor Adidome and Asikuma Junction. Procurement processes for these projects are currently ongoing, and work is expected to commence in the first quarter of 2024.
These achievements underscore the government’s commitment to improving transportation infrastructure in Ghana, fostering economic growth, and enhancing the overall quality of life for the citizens of the Volta Region.
The transformative impact of these road projects is already evident, and they are expected to continue driving progress in the years to come.
