The Melcom Group of Companies, in collaboration with the National Blood Service and the Graphic Clinic, organized a nationwide blood donation exercise to save lives across the country.
This initiative, conducted simultaneously at the Group’s 27 designated centers throughout Ghana, aimed to contribute to the replenishment of the National Blood Bank.
Mr Godwin Avenorgbor, the Director of Communications at the Melcom Group of Companies, appealed to Ghanaians and foreign residents to support this critical activity, highlighting the constant need for blood in various health facilities.
Blood donations are vital for saving lives, particularly for expectant mothers and accident victims requiring blood transfusions.
Mr Avenorgbor emphasized the significance of voluntary blood donation in sustaining the nation’s healthcare system.
He underlined the company’s commitment to supporting national development, driven by its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) focus on Education and Health.
He noted that Melcom has been organizing blood drives for over seven years, providing a meaningful platform for people to contribute to healthcare provision.
Mr Avenorgbor assured the public that the National Blood Service takes control of all donated blood units, and the company does not handle or have access to any of the donated blood.
“We don’t handle blood, neither do we touch blood. We only provide financial support to organize the exercise in all 16 regions of Ghana,” he explained.
Mr Avenorgbor stressed that a healthy population is a cornerstone of effective governance, and the company’s objective is to support the National Blood Service in achieving this goal.
Beyond the blood donation exercise, Mr Avenorgbor announced Melcom’s plans to open several new facilities by the end of the year.
These include a state-of-the-art gymnasium called Active 8, an international yogurt and ice cream brand, Yole, and three additional Pizza Hut restaurants.
Additionally, Melcom will introduce its Mimi brand with new shops in Tema Community 25 and the Airport residential area.
“These investments have generated both direct and indirect employment opportunities in the country,” he added, highlighting the positive impact of these developments on the local economy.
The 27 designated blood donation centers include various Melcom branches across the country, ensuring widespread participation.
The blood donation drive reflects the Melcom Group’s commitment to giving back to the community and contributing to the nation’s healthcare system, ultimately saving lives through collective efforts.
