Bawumia campaign refutes Ken Agyapong’s $800m offer allegation

The race for the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) flagbearership took an unexpected twist as Kennedy Agyapong, a prominent contender, alleged that he was offered a colossal $800 million to withdraw from the presidential primary race.

In a prompt response, the Bawumia Campaign vehemently denied these allegations, issuing a comprehensive rebuttal.

In a press release, the Bawumia Campaign’s spokesperson, Dr. Gideon Boako, Ph.D., outlined several key points in response to the accusations made by Mr. Agyapong:

No private meetings

The campaign clarified that Vice President Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia had not held any private meetings with Kennedy Agyapong since Agyapong’s entry into the flagbearership race.
This clarification aimed to discredit Agyapong’s claim that secret discussions had taken place.

No instructions given

The Bawumia Campaign asserted that the Vice President had never instructed anyone to meet with Kennedy Agyapong or any of his representatives to negotiate any terms related to the ongoing political contest.

This denial was intended to address suspicions of clandestine dealings.

Outlandish claim

The Bawumia Campaign characterized Agyapong’s claim of a colossal $800 million offer as “preposterous and completely without basis.”

They viewed it as an affront to the intelligence of the Ghanaian people, implying that such an offer would be unthinkable.

Confidence in victory

The campaign emphasized Dr. Bawumia’s unwavering confidence in his ability to secure a convincing victory over Mr. Agyapong on November 4th. They asserted that the Vice President had never entertained any notion of asking Mr. Agyapong to withdraw from the contest.

Repetition of baseless claims

The campaign highlighted that these recent allegations by Mr. Agyapong were a repeat of similar claims he made about a month ago.

In his previous assertion, Mr. Agyapong had claimed that he was offered money to step down and become a running mate to Dr. Bawumia, a claim that the Bawumia Campaign publicly refuted on September 30, 2023.

Dr. Bawumia’s modesty

Dr. Bawumia’s modesty and dedication to serving people through his intellect were underscored, seeking to dispel any suspicions of his involvement in such controversial offers.

Dignified campaign

The Bawumia Campaign reaffirmed its commitment to running a dignified campaign, free from personal attacks, falsehoods, and insults.

This commitment was framed as crucial for safeguarding the unity of the NPP, ensuring that the party’s primary remains focused on the issues that matter to Ghanaians.

The campaign urged the public to disregard the unfounded claims and reiterated Dr. Bawumia’s dedication to a respectful and issues-based campaign, aimed at bettering the party and the nation.

These allegations and the subsequent response have added a layer of intrigue to the NPP’s flagbearership race, making it one to watch closely as the election date approaches on November 4, 2023.
