Transport Unions Suspend Planned Demonstration Over Amasaman–Nsawam Road
The Ghana Private Road Transport Union (GPRTU), the Ghana Road Transport Coordinating Council (GRTCC), and allied transport unions have suspended their planned demonstration over the poor state of the Amasaman–Nsawam road.
In a joint statement issued on Thursday, August 21, 2025, the unions explained that the decision was taken after the contractor returned to site to resume construction works on the stretch.
The transport operators, who had earlier threatened to strike if urgent action was not taken, said they were encouraged by the government’s intervention and renewed commitment to addressing the problem.
“We commend the Government of Ghana and the relevant authorities for their timely intervention, which demonstrates a commitment to resolving the pressing challenges that affect both transport operators and commuters,” the statement read.
The unions assured commuters and stakeholders of their continued collaboration with the government to enhance road safety and protect lives and property. They further pledged their support for long-term efforts aimed at ensuring sustainable road infrastructure development across the country.
