GFA Elections: FA appears in court today to fight injunction application

By Daniel ODURO, Accra

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) will today argue its case in court and make a strong case as to why an injunction application on the 2023 elections should not be granted to demoted Ghana Premier League side King Faisal.

The GFA had set in motion processes leading to an elective Congress in Tamale on September 27.

Those processes included a roadmap outlined by the GFA Elections Committee regarding vetting of aspirants among other things.

While the vetting of aspirants has been done with the final decision on which persons made it yet to be published, King Faisal believes the decision by the FA to conduct the election for the Presidency before it does for the districts and regions is flawed.

The club has thus sort refuge at the court for redress.

Due to this, the GFA has decided to put the 2023 GFA Election Timetable on hold.

In a press statement announcing the decision, the GFA said, “this follows a Motion filed at the High Court by King Faisal FC, a Division One League Zone 2 club.

The GFA therefore wishes to inform all its members and stakeholders (especially Applicants who have filed their Nomination Forms for various positions) of the suspension of the 2023 GFA Elections process until the hearing of the motion on Wednesday, August 30, 2023.

The announcement of the Decision by the Elections Committee following the Vetting of the Applicants has therefore been put on hold.

The Association wishes to urge all members, clubs and applicants to remain calm. The Association will endeavour to seek appropriate legal redress for the prompt return to the 2023 Election Timetable and ensure that the calendar is not further disrupted.”
