The 8th Annual AIFAM Forum, arguably the foremost and longest – running institutional investment forum in Africa, successfully inaugurated in South Africa, at the Johannesburg Stock Exchange (JSE) Auditorium, on 23rd  January 2013.

It was inaugurated under the theme, “Accelerating Africa’s Sustainable Economic Growth through Institutional Funds 8Investment”.

John Oliphant, the then Principal Executive Officer at the Government Employees Pension Fund (GEPF), set a positive tone for the AIFAM Forum through an insightful keynote presentation titled, “Investment Opportunities in Africa — The GEPF’s Plan to Invest in the African Growth Story”.

In his presentation, Oliphant highlighted that the GEPF was the largest pension fund in the continent, valued at ZAR1, 2 trillion, as of 31st May 2013.

This presentation was focused at highlighting investment opportunities that were available throughout the continent, and how the GEPF got to be the top fund in Africa, and also highlighting the investment areas that the GEPF had target to allocate to.
