Use your expertise to develop innovative, creative ideas – Ing. Antwi Bosiako Charges TUTAG

The Deputy Director – General, Commission for Technical, Vocational, Education Training (TVET), Ing. Peter Antwi Bosiako, has charged the Technical Universities Teachers Association of Ghana (TUTAG), to be more innovative and creative with the expertise in their respective trade areas for national development.
Ing. Antwi Bosiako admonished the teacher union not to use the association as a tool only to fight for their salary increment and their social wellbeing, but see themselves as an association of technical experts.
“You can use your expertise to form groups of consortium amongst yourselves to come up with innovative ideas that could create jobs and generate funds for the association” he implored.
The Deputy Director – General also urged TUTAG to focus on building the capacity and improve employment prospects of Ghanaian youth through quality skills training, practical – oriented and competency – based approach, to develop the country.
Ing Antwi Bosiako indicated these in Cape coast in the Central region at the 46th Delegates Conference of the Technical University Teachers Association of Ghana, held at Cape Coast Technical University Campus on the theme, “Achieving the Future Job Prospects for Ghanaian Youth – The Role of Technical Universities.”
In his speech, he took the opportunity to highlight a few reformative policies adopted by the government of Ghana, through the Ministry of Education to transform Technical and Vocational Education and Training in Ghana.
Ing. Antwi Bosiako talked about the passage of the two major Acts passed by Parliament of Ghana to transform the educational system in Ghana; the Pre – tertiary Education Act (Act 1049 of 2020), which established two agencies – Ghana Education Service (GES) and Ghana TVET Service.
The Deputy – Director General noted that the Act also passed the Education Regulatory Bodies Act, (Act 1023 of 2020), which established five agencies, namely the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission (GTEC).
Others were the Commission For TVET (CTVET), National Schools Inspectorate Authority (NaSIA), National Curriculum Authority (NaCA), and the National Teaching Council (NTC).
“The Pre -Tertiary Act, (Act 1049), now mandates the GES to manage only the general education and grammar schools, whereas the TVET Service also mandated to manage the TVET, since the two educational trainings have different learning outcomes” he noted.
Ing. Antwi Bosiako indicated that the Commission for TVET under Act 1023 of 2020, also mandates the Commission to regulate, administer and promote TVET and skills training across the broad spectrum of Pre – tertiary, and Tertiary TVET programmes and institutions in Ghana.
The Deputy Director – General expressed appreciation to the National Executives of TUTAG and the Technical Universities on behalf of the Director – General of the Commission, Dr. Fred Kyei Asamoah, for their collaboration with COTVET.
” it is by your hard work that COTVET is witnessing the current improvement and transformation of technical and vocational education and training in Ghana, as a catalyst to reduce the unemployment situation” the Deputy Director – General of TVET Commission emphasised.
