What next for Kamaldeen, Mohammed Salisu after Southampton relegation?

By Daniel ODURO, Accra

The future of Ghanaian duo, Mohammed Salisu and Kamaldeen Sulemana is up in the air with fans eager to know where they will be playing next season following Southampton’s relegation from the English Premier League over the weekend.

Southampton which has endured a very difficult campaign confirmed their relegation after losing 2-0 to Fulham on Saturday.

Second-half goals from Carlos Vinicius and Aleksandar Mitrovic secured a first league double for Fulham at St Mary’s and also confirmed the inevitable for the Saints, making them the first team to be relegated this season.

This brings an end to the team’s 11-year stay in the English Premier League and they will be playing in England’s 2nd tier for the first time since 2012.

For a lot of Ghanaians and Africans who follow the EPL, the question is whether the Ghanaian duo will play in the lower tier or they will seek a move in the summer transfer window in order to stay in the top flight.

Mohammed Salisu joined the Saints in 2020 and became a very important player for the team.

However, he has struggled to stay fit this season and has missed about 15 games for his side.

Sulemana on the other hand joined the club in the January transfer window and has made 16 appearances for the Saints but has failed to make any significant impact on the team since joining.

Time will tell where both players will play next season, with Salisu already attracting interest from several clubs in the English Premier League.

Southampton will finish the season against Brighton and Liverpool.

Former league winners Leicester City, Leeds United and Everton are among the bottom club who could also be relegated with two match days to end the season.
