President caution against divisive politics ahead of elections

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo delivered a poignant message to the Muslim community gathered at the Independence Square to mark this year’s Eid-al-Fitr celebration.
Addressing the crowd, the President emphasized the importance of unity and cautioned against divisive tactics that could threaten the nation’s cohesion, particularly in the lead-up to the 2024 general elections.
“In election year, there is the tendency for some self-seeking people to exploit our differences of religion and ethnicity to torment division,” President Akufo-Addo warned, urging citizens to reject such attempts and remain committed to national unity.
Highlighting the significance of Ramadan and its values, the President called on Muslims to uphold the spirit of sacrifice, fellow feeling, ethical living, and God consciousness beyond the holy month.
He stressed that these values are essential for national development and prosperity.
Acknowledging the leadership of the Muslim community in promoting peace and tranquility, President Akufo-Addo expressed gratitude for their patriotism and commitment to Ghana’s well-being.
Reflecting on his administration’s efforts to address the challenges faced by Zongo communities, the President reaffirmed his commitment to fulfilling the promises made during the 2016 election campaign.
He cited various projects initiated under the Zongo Community Development Fund, including school infrastructure, sanitation improvements, and sports facilities, as evidence of progress.
Encouraging residents to take ownership of the Fund, President Akufo-Addo urged them to participate actively in its development to ensure its sustainability for future generations.
Looking ahead to the 2024 general elections, the President expressed confidence in Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumiah’s leadership and his commitment to advancing the development agenda, particularly in Zongo communities.
As the Eid-al-Fitr celebration concluded, President Akufo-Addo reiterated his appeal for inclusivity and emphasized Ghana’s esteemed position globally as a beacon of religious freedom and coexistence.
The President’s address resonated deeply with the Muslim community, underscoring the importance of unity, ethical living, and collective responsibility in building a stronger and more prosperous nation.
