Investing more in preparation of athletes – LOC Chair

The Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC) for the 2023 African Games, Dr. Kwaku Ofosu-Asare, believes that Ghana could have secured even more medals if greater investment had been made into the preparation of athletes. Despite winning an unprecedented 69 medals, the highest in the competition’s history and finishing sixth on the medal table, there is a prevailing sentiment that Ghana could have performed even better with more robust athlete preparation.

Several athletes have voiced complaints about inadequate support received in preparation for the games, attributing their underperformance to this factor.

In response to these concerns, Dr. Ofosu-Asare emphasized that as the host nation, Ghana should have allocated more resources to adequately prepare its athletes.

He cautioned against becoming complacent due to the remarkable achievement, urging for increased investment to propel Ghanaian athletes to the next level of competitiveness.

Dr. Ofosu-Asare’s remarks underscore the importance of sustained investment in sports development to ensure that athletes are sufficiently equipped to excel on the international stage.
