Announce running mate to kill intense lobbying  – COKA

Former Afigya Kwabre South constituency chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah popularly known as COKA, has called on the party’s flagbearer for the 2024 elections, Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, to expedite the selection of a running mate to prevent further division and tension within the party, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

COKA’s plea comes amidst heightened lobbying within the party for the position of vice-presidential candidate, with many advocating for the selection of a running mate from the Ashanti Region, deemed the “World Bank” of the NPP.

However, this intense lobbying has led to divisions and tensions within the region, posing a threat to the party’s unity and strength.

Highlighting the significance of the Ashanti Region as the NPP’s main base, COKA emphasized that a strong showing in the region is crucial for the party’s overall success in the upcoming elections.

He warned that failure to address the divisions and tensions within the Ashanti Region could jeopardize the NPP’s electoral prospects and play into the hands of their main opponent, the NDC, which has targeted the region for increased support.

Expressing concern over the delay in the running mate selection process, COKA cited the party’s constitution, which stipulates that the candidate should have selected a running mate by the close of December last year.

He urged Dr. Bawumia to act swiftly to prevent further deterioration within the party and ensure unity ahead of the elections.

In a statement posted on his Facebook page over the weekend, COKA stressed the urgency of the situation, emphasizing the need for Dr. Bawumia to save the party from further division and discord.

He suggested that naming the running mate sooner rather than later would allow any potential fallouts to be managed effectively, particularly in the Ashanti Region.

Chairman Odeneho Kwaku Appiah urged all defeated aspirants in the party’s primaries to unite and support the NPP’s campaign efforts.

Emphasizing the importance of party unity, COKA called on members to rally behind the party’s goal of securing victory in the 2024 elections.
