The Chairperson of the Black Queens Management Committee, Gifty Oware has assured that the outstanding bonuses of the Black Queen and Black Princesses will be settled soon as talks with the Sports Ministry are far advanced to redeem the bonuses.
The Black Queens, who have successfully qualified for the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) and are on the brink of securing a spot in the 2024 Olympic Games, have been awaiting payment of their bonuses.
Additionally, the Black Princesses, Ghana’s female U-20 side, recently earned qualification for the World Cup and are set to represent the country at the upcoming 13th Africa Games.
Dr. Gifty Oware Mensah, a member of the Ghana Football Association Executive Committee, confirmed during the GFA Meet the Press event in Kumasi on Wednesday, February 7, 2024, that steps are being taken to address the concerns.
She stated, “Black Queens will be paid all bonuses before their next game,” specifically referring to the Olympic qualifier against Zambia.
Furthermore, Dr. Mensah assured that the Black Princesses would also receive their unpaid bonuses before the commencement of the 13th Africa Games.
This commitment from the GFA comes in the wake of fervent calls from players and the media, highlighting the delayed payments despite the teams’ commendable dedication to representing Ghana with pride in their recent matches.
The owed bonuses, reportedly around $7500 for each player, are expected to be settled before the Black Queens’ crucial fixture against Zambia in Kumasi later this month.
The announcement provides a sense of relief and ensures that the players can focus on their upcoming matches with the financial support they deserve.
