Mahama is a tried but failed leader-Nana Akomea

Nana Akomea, the former Member of Parliament for Okaikwei South and Director for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia’s Campaign Communications, has criticized former President John Mahama, stating that he is a tried but failed leader and cannot be the new, fresh leader the country needs in the upcoming December elections.
Speaking during the Acclamation ceremony for Darkoa Newman, the current MP for Okaikwei South, last Saturday, January 20, at the Kaneshi Presby Church, Nana Akomea expressed his views on Mahama’s leadership.
Akomea highlighted that John Mahama laid out his vision for the country in 2008 when he was a vice-presidential candidate and reiterated his vision when he became president in July 2012.
However, he criticized Mahama’s presidency, stating that it was characterized by challenges such as Dumsor (power outages), economic hardships, and corruption on a grand scale.
During his speech, Nana Akomea pointed out that Dumsor under Mahama lasted four years, leading to the loss of lives and the collapse of numerous businesses.
He also mentioned that economic conditions were so severe that President Mahama had to seek a bailout from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
On the issue of corruption, Akomea claimed that corruption was rampant during Mahama’s presidency, citing cases such as Gyeeda, Sada, Bus Branding, and more.
He reminded the audience that President Mahama himself was directly implicated in corruption cases, including the West Blue contract and the infamous Ford car bribery scandal.
Nana Akomea asserted that all the promises Mahama is making today were previously made in various forms to Ghanaians in 2008 and especially in 2012 when he assumed the presidency.
He argued that during Mahama’s tenure, corruption did not improve, the economy did not improve, and unemployment worsened, leading to Mahama’s significant loss in the 2016 elections.
Furthermore, Akomea recalled President Mahama’s statements about having a “dead goat syndrome” and his reluctance to accept criticism from anyone who had not been president before.
He questioned how such a person could be seeking the presidency again.
In contrast, Nana Akomea concluded that Vice President Bawumia, who has never been president, has never been implicated in any corruption case, directly or indirectly.
He highlighted Bawumia’s economic prognosis and prescriptions, stating that if elected president, Bawumia would be in a position to deliver progress for Ghana.
Akomea concluded by emphasizing that Bawumia, as a fresh candidate, has a high possibility of delivering progress for all, compared to John Mahama, whose previous record led to his rejection by Ghanaians.
The political discourse surrounding the upcoming elections is expected to intensify as the campaign season progresses.
