NDC boys lock up party office deepening cracks in the party

Tensions within the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have heightened as a youth group associated with the party in Tohazie stormed the NDC’s Regional Secretariat in Tamale.
The group took drastic action by locking up the office in protest against the arrest of the NDC’s Northern Regional Vice-Chairman, Abdul Hamid Alhassan, popularly known as Alhaji Gbewaa.
The youth group demanded the immediate release of Alhaji Gbewaa, who turned himself in to the police on Monday.
The arrest followed a complaint of assault against him, stemming from an incident during a Regional Executive meeting at the Party’s Secretariat in Tamale over the weekend.
The meeting aimed to decide on a campaign strategy for the upcoming general election.
Alhaji Gbewaa reportedly assaulted Hajia Shamima Yakubu, the Northern Regional Treasurer of the NDC, during a disagreement, leading to a physical confrontation.
Reports indicate that Yakubu sustained facial injuries and underwent medical treatment before being discharged.
In response to Alhaji Gbewaa’s arrest, the youth group took direct action, locking the NDC’s Regional Secretariat office.
The situation prompted the deployment of armed police officers and vehicles, reinforcing security around the office.
The violence within the NDC has also affected other party members, as NDC National Vice-Chairman Awudu Sofo Azorka had his clothing torn during the chaos.
The incident highlights the deepening internal strife within the NDC, with clashes and physical altercations underscoring the challenges the party faces in maintaining unity and addressing discontent within its ranks.
As the situation unfolds, it poses a significant challenge for the NDC in managing internal conflicts and projecting a united front ahead of the upcoming elections.
