Hajia Samira Bawumia, the wife of the Vice-President, brought joy and festive cheer to approximately 1000 women and less privileged members of the Ashalaja community in the Obom Domeabra Constituency of the Greater Accra Region. The gathering was part of her annual Christmas celebrations, organized under the auspices of the Samira Empowerment and Humanitarian Project (SEHP).
During the event, Mrs. Bawumia addressed the invited women, encouraging them to embrace the spirit of unity symbolized by Christmas and to overcome societal divisions.
She emphasized that Christmas is a time for merriment and reconciliation, urging the attendees to carry the spirit of unity into the coming year.
She stated, “Let us carry that unity into 2024. We are one big family of Ghanaians.”
Expressing her concern for the welfare of the women, especially widows, Mrs. Bawumia assured them that they are always in her thoughts.
She expressed her dedication to working towards uplifting the majority of people from poverty and destitution.
She said, “I’m particularly concerned about the widows in your midst, with all the troubles they go through, but I want you to rejoice. Our work is meant to serve the masses and lift them up.”
The Second Lady was joined by Muhammed Abdul-Wahab, the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Candidate for the Obom Domeabra constituency. Abdul-Wahab expressed gratitude to the Second Lady for her unexpected gesture towards the women and the needy in the constituency. He termed her actions as “unprecedented” and conveyed optimism that, in the future, the constituency would similarly make unprecedented choices, electing an NPP candidate as their Member of Parliament.
Abdul-Wahab pledged to collaborate closely with the Second Lady, ensuring that the needs of the constituency are effectively addressed, especially if he secures the mandate in the next elections.
