Obour to contest Asante Akyem South Parliamentary Seat
The Managing Director of Ghana Post Bice Obour Osei Kuffour, popularly known as Obour, has declared his intention to contest for the Asante Akyem South Constituency seat in the upcoming 2024 elections.
He aims to secure the parliamentary seat after narrowly losing to the incumbent Member of Parliament (MP) by 58 votes in the 2020 elections.
In a media briefing held in Kumasi, Obour emphasized his commitment to “Breaking the Eight,” a goal set by the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to secure victory in the 2024 elections.
He expressed concern about the declining support for the NPP compared to the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the constituency and aims to reverse the trend.
“I am committed to Breaking the Eight and determined to contribute to its success. It’s unacceptable for the NDC to perform better than us in our stronghold Asante Akyem South,” Obour stated.
He emphasized that his candidacy is not just a slogan but a tangible goal that he is fully dedicated to achieving.
Obour outlined his campaign focus on creativity, hard work, and job creation for the youth in the constituency.
He plans to provide skills training and advocate for developmental projects, leveraging his extensive networks.
As a leader, he believes in representing the concerns of constituents in Parliament and promoting strategic projects.
The aspirant highlighted the untapped potential of the Asante Akyem South Constituency, home to high-profile personalities and talented individuals.
Obour pledged to collaborate with chiefs and opinion leaders to bring progress and development to the constituency.
Addressing party delegates, Obour called for their massive support in the upcoming internal election to elect parliamentary candidates.
He expressed confidence that the delegates would rally behind him, citing his continued commitment to the party even after his loss in the previous primaries.
“When I lost in the last primaries, I did not abandon ship but worked tirelessly with the MP and Constituency executive to canvass for votes. I have also consistently provided support for the local party in its activities and the constituents,” Obour emphasized.
The NPP has announced the final leg of its internal election to elect parliamentary candidates on January 27, 2024, in constituencies where the party has sitting Members of Parliament.
Nominations for aspiring parliamentary candidates will be open from December 20 to December 25, 2023.
