LOC unveils plans to brand Accra for 13th African Games

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the 13th African Games has unveiled its comprehensive branding strategy to heighten public awareness and attract sponsors for the upcoming sporting event.

During a media briefing in Accra, the Deputy Chief Operations Officer (COO), Mr. Reks Brobby, outlined the extensive efforts underway to brand Accra with the tournament’s logo and colors.

He highlighted specific areas in Accra that will be branded for the Games, including routes from King Tackie Tawiah to Aburi, King Tackie Tawiah to Kasoa, King Tackie Tawiah to Osu High Street, King Tackie Tawiah to Teshie with Kotoka International Airport, serving as a beacon of the nation’s readiness to host the African continent.

According to him, the branding exercise serves a dual purpose – increasing visibility locally and reaching out to Ghanaians in the diaspora and international visitors.

“We have embarked upon a vigorous semiotic campaign to increase visibility. The airport branding will alert our brothers in the Diaspora and Ghanaians abroad who usually visit home of our preparedness to host the rest of Africa,” Mr Brobby stated.

Dan Kwaku Yeboah, the Media Sub Committee Chairman of the LOC, expressed gratitude to the media for their support and cooperation. He outlined various media engagement activities, including a tour in Accra and Kumasi, stakeholder engagements with the Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), a functional multilingual website, and official social media pages.

“The LOC has introduced a Newsletter, and we are also working on signing a memorandum of understanding with various radio stations and online portals across the country as media partners,” added Kwaku Yeboah.

Dr. Kwaku Fosu-Asare, the Executive Chairman of the LOC, called on the media to project the Games positively. He thanked the Government and the Ministry of Youth and Sports for their steadfast commitment to hosting a successful African Games.

Key members of the LOC, including Mr. Sampson Dean (Head of Transport), Dr. Beatrice Dwumfour Williams (Anti-Doping), Mr. Halid Osman Ahmed (Security), Dr. Kwame Baah Nuaku (Marketing), Madam Joyce Datsa (Accommodation and Logistics), and Mr. Ernest Danso (Chef du Mission for Team Ghana), addressed the media during the briefing.

Vice-President of SWAG, Mr. Charles Osei Asibey, journalist Mr. Karl Tuffour, and members of the LOC Media Sub Committee, Mr. Maurice Quansah and Roselind Amoh, were also in attendance at the event.
