Access Bank Ghana receives SSI Awards for commitment to sustainability
In a resounding acknowledgment of its dedication to corporate social responsibility, Access Bank Ghana has been honored with two prestigious awards at the legacy edition of the Sustainability and Social Investment (SSI) Awards held in Accra.
The bank secured the coveted titles of “Best Company in Promoting Sports Development” and “Project of the Year – Environment.” These accolades underscore Access Bank Ghana’s remarkable contributions to grassroots sports development and its active participation in the government’s tree planting initiative, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability.
The event, chaired by Professor Douglas Boateng, an expert in Environmental, Social, and Governance, revolved around the theme “Sustainability and the Economy, Creating a Balanced Future for All.”
Access Bank Ghana’s Managing Director, Mr. Olumide Olatunji, expressed gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the bank’s overarching commitment to sustainability across its operations.
He highlighted the bank’s adherence to Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles in lending processes and its impactful social investment projects.
Over the past two years, Access Bank Ghana has notably supported 48 clubs under the Division One League of The Ghana Football Association, contributing to the promotion of grassroots sports in the country.
Additionally, the bank has demonstrated its commitment to environmental conservation by planting over 20,000 seedlings in various locations.
The Head of Corporate Communications and Brands Management, Mr. Oluwaseun David-Akinde, highlighted the bank’s recent campaign, ‘A Sandal More for a Better Tomorrow,’ as a tangible manifestation of its dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
This initiative transforms tire waste into eco-friendly school sandals for underprivileged children, aligning with SDGs 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production) and 4 (Quality Education).
Access Bank Ghana’s consistent commitment to sustainability has earned it international and local acclaim, including being named the Best CSR Bank in Ghana by Euromoney Awards, World Economic Magazine Awards, and Finance Derivative Awards in 2023.
These accolades reinforce the bank’s position as a leader in the banking industry, demonstrating its unwavering pursuit of excellence in sustainable practices and social impact.
