Ghana Institution of Engineering, Navy Sign MoU to Strengthen Engineering Standards

The Ghana Institution of Engineering (GhIE) and the Ghana Navy have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) aimed at strengthening engineering practice, promoting professionalism and improving technical capacity among engineers.
The partnership is expected to strengthen collaboration between the two institutions through knowledge sharing, skills development, capacity building and the exchange of technical expertise, while promoting higher engineering standards and supporting national development.
It will also provide a platform for professional training and closer engagement between the GhIE and the Ghana Navy.
Speaking at the signing ceremony, Flag Officer, Naval Command, Commodore Eric Osei, said the partnership would enable the Ghana Navy to conduct its engineering operations in line with established professional regulations.
“At the Navy, we have engineers, mechanical and electrical engineers, and so collaborating with the Ghana Institution of Engineering means that we will have access to their tailored courses. We will also be part of their engineering networking, which will help us practise engineering in accordance with the existing regulations,” Commodore Osei said.
He noted that the partnership would help strengthen the capacity of Navy engineers while ensuring that their work meets required professional standards.
President of the Ghana Institution of Engineering, Ludwig Annan Hesse, said the collaboration would promote excellence in the engineering sector by allowing both military and civilian engineers to learn from each other’s experiences.
According to him, the technical skills and practices developed within the military could provide valuable lessons for civilian engineers and contribute to improving professional practices in the country.
He added that the partnership would create opportunities for joint training programmes and professional development initiatives that would benefit members of both institutions.
The Ghana Institution of Engineering, which is responsible for advancing and regulating the engineering profession in Ghana, said the agreement forms part of its broader efforts to promote high standards and continuous improvement within the sector.
The collaboration between the two institutions is expected to strengthen engineering practice within the Ghana Navy while reinforcing efforts to develop a highly skilled engineering workforce capable of supporting Ghana’s development agenda.
