Lali x Lola Celebrate TGMA ‘Music for Good’ Honour

By Esther Korantemaa Offei

Award-winning Ghanaian twin music duo Lali x Lola have expressed gratitude after winning the Music for Good award at the Telecel Ghana Music Awards (TGMA) 27, describing the recognition as a testament to the collective effort behind their campaign against breast cancer and other social issues.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Highway 10.19 on ZED FM, the twins reflected on the emotional moment they were announced winners. Lali admitted that the excitement of the moment left her overwhelmed.

“Funnily enough, I was so zoned out to everything. It was when I watched the video afterwards that I realised what had happened. After we got on stage, we were even laughing because we were perfectly in sync with our walking. We were stepping exactly the same right, left. It wasn’t planned,” she said.

She added that they had eagerly waited for the announcement of the category. “We kept asking ourselves, ‘When are they going to announce Music for Good?’ because it was getting late.”

The duo won the award with Cross It Out, a song created to promote breast cancer awareness. However, Lola revealed that the initiative has now evolved into a broader campaign addressing several social issues.

“We are honoured and humbled to have been in a category with amazing people, but we were also confident because we knew we deserved it. We worked hard, and this award isn’t just for us. There are so many people behind Crox It Out, the team, the doctors, the nurses and the life coaches,” she said.

Lola explained that the project has expanded beyond breast cancer advocacy. “This year, Crox It Out is even bigger. We’re focusing on wellness, female empowerment, menstrual hygiene and mental health awareness. It’s huge.”

Explaining the significance of the award, Lali said the Music for Good category recognises songs that create meaningful social change.

“It’s a category that highlights a song making a positive impact in society. That’s why Crox It Out was recognised. It was one of the most prestigious awards presented on the night.”

The twins said the honour has strengthened their commitment to using music as a tool for advocacy and positive social transformation.
