I Stayed Away From Acting Because I Was Tired – Ray Emodi

Nollywood actor Ray Emodi has opened up about his decision to take a break from acting, revealing that years of relentless work left him physically and emotionally exhausted.

Speaking in a recent video, the actor said stepping away from the film industry was one of the most difficult decisions he has made, explaining that he never imagined reaching a point where he would pause the career he has passionately pursued for years.

Reflecting on his journey, Emodi disclosed that he had appeared in about 300 film productions between 2017 and the end of 2024, a demanding schedule that left him with little time to rest.

“I acted from 2017 till last year ending. That’s about 300 productions. Eight years, no vacations, no rest. I was tired,” he said.

According to the actor, the intensity of his workload gradually diminished his enthusiasm for acting, prompting him to take time away from the industry to rediscover his passion.

“If you do something too much, you get tired. I needed a break to find the love for acting again. I have high respect for acting,” Emodi explained.

He also apologised to his fans, acknowledging that his announcement may have disappointed many who had supported his acting career over the years.

“Waking up one day to say I’m not acting again felt like I swindled you guys. I’m sorry for playing with your emotions,” he said.

Earlier this year, Emodi announced his decision to leave the movie industry, citing traumatic experiences on film sets as one of the major factors behind his choice. He also disclosed plans to shift his focus to music, a field he intends to explore more actively during his break from acting.

Although he has stepped away from the screen for now, Emodi’s latest remarks suggest that the move is intended as a temporary pause rather than a permanent retirement. By taking time to recover from years of continuous work, the actor says he hopes to regain the passion that first inspired his successful career in Nollywood while pursuing new opportunities in music.
