My best collaboration will be a song with Sarkodie – Efya

Renowned Ghanaian songstress Efya has shed light on her most impactful collaborations, citing her joint efforts with Sarkodie as the ones that have given her the greatest visibility in the music space.

Speaking on Showbiz A-Z on Joy FM, Efya shared that out of her extensive collaborations with approximately 120 artists, her collaborations with Sarkodie stand out as the most challenging yet rewarding.

“The hardest collaboration will be anything that I did with Sarkodie,” she expressed to host Kwame Dadzie during the interview. Efya, known for her exceptional artistry, has been involved in numerous solo projects as well as joint music ventures.

“Notable among her highly praised collaborations are ‘I’m in Love with You’ and ‘Saara’ with Sarkodie, ‘Hold Me Down’ with Akwaboah, and ‘One of Your Own’ featuring Bisa K Dei.

Reiterating a statement she made on Twitter two years ago, Efya emphasized the need for artists who haven’t released works she featured in over the past three years to consider revisiting or fine-tuning the projects before release.

According to her, the evolution of artists and changes in musical tastes over time necessitate adjustments to ensure the music remains relevant.

“Nowadays, it depends on the mic you are using. There is a certain way that I need things to be. The upgrade is not easy. When it’s done, it has to be maintained. It’s not really that bad. It’s no shade or anything. Come, let’s make the song better,” she noted.

Efya highlighted the dynamic nature of music production, noting that different kicks and loops emerge each year.

To resonate with contemporary audiences, she emphasized the importance of creating music that reflects the present rather than relying on past sounds.

“So if you want to really release the song now and appeal to the ears of the people now, you need to make it something that will be a hit now, not the previous one,” she added.

Currently promoting her latest EP titled ‘No More Tears,’ Efya continues to be a prominent figure in the Ghanaian music scene, with her insights shedding light on the evolving dynamics of the industry.
