Access Bank Reaffirms Commitment to Ashanti Region Growth

The Managing Director of Access Bank Ghana PLC, Pearl Nkrumah, has reaffirmed the bank’s commitment to supporting economic growth and business development in the Ashanti Region, describing the area as one of Ghana’s most important commercial and entrepreneurial centres.
Speaking during a roundtable engagement with editors in Kumasi, Ms. Nkrumah emphasised the strategic importance of the Ashanti Region to Ghana’s economy and reiterated the bank’s long-term focus on supporting businesses, communities and entrepreneurs within the region.
“The Ashanti Region has always stood out as one of the most vibrant and economically important parts of Ghana. Its entrepreneurial spirit, resilience, and influence on business is impossible to ignore,” she stated.
According to her, Access Bank Ghana PLC sees itself not merely as a financial institution operating in Ghana, but as an active partner in the country’s broader economic transformation agenda.
She noted that the bank continues to support small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), particularly women-led and youth-owned businesses, through initiatives such as the bank’s “W” Initiative and SME Clinics operating in Kumasi.
“Access Bank (Ghana) PLC is not simply a bank doing business in Ghana. We are part of Ghana’s growth story. We employ hundreds of Ghanaians and support thousands of SME businesses across communities such as Adum, Kejetia and beyond,” she added.
Ms. Nkrumah explained that the bank’s support for SMEs forms part of a broader strategy aimed at promoting financial inclusion, entrepreneurship and sustainable economic development across key regional markets.
As part of efforts to strengthen stakeholder collaboration and support media development in the region, Access Bank Ghana PLC also announced a donation of GH¢50,000 toward the completion of the Kumasi Regional Press Centre project.
“I am aware of the ambitious Regional Press Center project being undertaken by the media fraternity here, and I believe it is a worthy vision. In support of this initiative, Access Bank (Ghana) PLC is pleased to contribute GH¢50,000 towards its completion. We see this as part of a growing partnership, not a one-off gesture,” she said.
Editors present at the engagement commended the bank for maintaining direct interaction with stakeholders in the Ashanti Region and acknowledged the importance of stronger collaboration between financial institutions and the media in promoting economic growth and regional development.
The engagement forms part of the bank’s broader strategy to deepen its presence within key regional economies while building partnerships that support business expansion, financial inclusion and sustainable development.
Access Bank Ghana PLC, a subsidiary of Access Bank PLC, operates as a full-service commercial bank in Ghana and forms part of the wider Access Bank Group, which has operations across 20 markets.
The bank says it remains focused on expanding financial inclusion, supporting digital transformation and providing innovative banking solutions aimed at empowering individuals and businesses across Ghana.
With increasing competition within Ghana’s banking industry, analysts say regional engagement strategies and SME-focused financing initiatives are becoming increasingly important for banks seeking to strengthen market presence and support long-term economic activity beyond Accra.
