Creativity, Passion Drives Growth in Technology

Computer science student and AI assisted developer Isaac Osafo Sasu has opened up about his experience studying IT in Ghana and working as a Vibe coder.
Speaking on the Zed Tech Show on ZED 101.9 FM, Isaac described the challenges, expectations, and opportunities that come with learning computer science in Ghana.
Isaac admitted that his early expectations were very different from reality. “I thought you just get a laptop, sit in a corner, and start typing,” he said. But once he began studying, he realised computer science is demanding and requires creativity, persistence, and a genuine passion for technology.
Now in Level 300, Isaac explained that classroom lessons provide the foundation, but practical projects are what truly shape his skills. Alongside his studies, he works as a senior Vibe coder, building AI assisted solutions. One of his standout projects is a fully automated WhatsApp bot that allows businesses to sell products directly through chat. Using Python and Meta Edit, he created a system that sends pictures, asks questions, and interacts with customers in real time.
Isaac described Vibe coding as both difficult and time consuming. He explained that AI tools sometimes “hallucinate,” producing errors or working in the wrong project files. “You have to be very specific, break tasks into chunks, and monitor every change,” he said. He added that while Vibe coding is not taught in Ghanaian universities, his journey began with a final year project where he used AI to generate a proposal and later built on it with coding skills.
He believes that commitment and curiosity are enough to start Vibe coding, even without formal education. However, he acknowledged that classroom knowledge helps in debugging errors and understanding programming languages like Python. Isaac also criticised the current syllabus, saying it focuses too much on outdated tools such as SQL databases. “In the real world, people are using MongoDB, Postgres, Firebase, and Super Base. Our syllabus needs to adapt to modern trends,” he argued.
For Isaac, the motivation to study IT came from curiosity about how apps work behind the scenes. He wanted to move beyond being a consumer to becoming a creator, inspired by others building innovative products. His journey reflects the broader experience of many IT students in Ghana, balancing theory with practice, facing challenges in outdated curricula, and striving to innovate with modern tools.
Despite the difficulties, Isaac remains optimistic. He sees Vibe coding as a way to bridge the gap between classroom learning and real world application, helping young developers create solutions that meet everyday needs. His story highlights the importance of updating Ghana’s IT education system to match industry demands, while also showing how determination and creativity can drive innovation.
As Ghana pushes forward in its digital economy, students like Isaac represent the new wave of developers who are not only learning but also building platforms that can transform businesses and communities.
