MTN GH Pushes Businesses Towards Full Digital Transformation

The Chief Enterprise Business Officer of MTN Ghana, Angela Mensah-Poku, has called on businesses and marketing professionals to urgently embrace digital transformation.
She warned that organisations that fail to adapt to changing technological trends risk being left behind in an increasingly competitive global economy.
Speaking at the MTN Ghana Digital Transformation Conference 2026 in Accra, she said the time for debating the importance of digital transformation was over, stressing that businesses must now focus on practical implementation and innovation to remain relevant.
The conference, held on the theme “Pioneering the Future: Embracing Digital Transformation for Marketing Excellence,” brought together more than 500 professionals from the marketing, advertising and business sectors to discuss the future of digital marketing, connectivity and business growth in Ghana.
Ms. Mensah-Poku explained that the conference was organised to move conversations on digital transformation beyond theory and focus on practical strategies businesses can adopt to improve operations, customer engagement and growth.
According to her, while discussions around technology and digital innovation have become common, many organisations continue to struggle with implementation because they approach the subject at a high level without applying it directly to their industries and business operations.
She noted that customer behaviour and expectations have evolved rapidly in recent years, making it necessary for businesses to rethink how they compete and create value.
She said many organisations across Africa continue to delay transformation despite having access to data, digital tools and successful global examples. According to her, the challenge is not always financial or technological, but often a failure to fully appreciate the scale of opportunities digital transformation can create.
Ms. Mensah-Poku stressed that modern marketing requires businesses to become more personal, accountable and responsive to consumer needs, adding that organisations must deliberately position themselves for the future instead of remaining in what she described as the “space of almost.”
She explained that some businesses claim to be almost digital or almost data-driven but fail to make the bold decisions required to fully transform their operations and improve customer experience.
The MTN executive said the company remains committed to ensuring that no Ghanaian is excluded from the digital economy, adding that MTN continues to invest in digital skills training, connectivity and capacity building for businesses and communities across the country.
She disclosed that the company is extending its digital training programmes beyond major cities into rural communities through its foundation, consumer business initiatives and SME support programmes.
According to her, MTN will continue organising digital marketing and technology training for entrepreneurs and small businesses, including upcoming programmes in Koforidua aimed at helping businesses use digital tools to expand beyond Ghana’s borders.
Ms. Mensah-Poku said digital transformation presents significant opportunities for small and medium-sized enterprises, particularly in areas such as e-commerce, financial inclusion and job creation.
She encouraged entrepreneurs to take advantage of accessible digital platforms such as social media to market their products internationally, stressing that businesses do not necessarily need expensive tools to succeed in the digital economy.
She further reaffirmed MTN Ghana’s commitment to improving network connectivity and broadband access across the country, noting that reliable digital infrastructure remains critical to Ghana’s economic growth and transformation agenda.
Ms. Mensah-Poku added that MTN would continue expanding its coverage and broadband footprint in both urban and rural communities to support businesses, consumers and the wider digital ecosystem.
