Ghana Urged to Tap Global Gateway Investment Package

The European Union Ambassador to Ghana, Rune Skinnebach, has called on Ghana to take full advantage of the European Union’s Global Gateway investment package for Africa to support the country’s development financing agenda and accelerate economic transformation.
According to the ambassador, the initiative presents significant opportunities for Ghana to attract investment into key sectors including infrastructure, education, digitalisation, renewable energy and sustainable industrial development.
Ambassador Skinnebach made the remarks while addressing participants at a Career Service Centre programme held at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology.
Speaking at the event, he stressed the importance of strategic partnerships between Ghanaian institutions and the European Union, noting that the Global Gateway initiative is designed to strengthen connectivity, promote inclusive growth and support sustainable development across Africa.
He explained that the initiative could serve as a major catalyst for economic growth if government agencies, private sector actors, educational institutions and young professionals position themselves adequately to take advantage of the opportunities available.
The EU ambassador encouraged Ghanaian businesses and entrepreneurs to deepen collaboration with European partners in order to attract investment, technology transfer and innovation-driven projects that could create jobs and improve livelihoods.
According to him, the programme offers prospects not only for governments but also for students, researchers and young professionals seeking to build careers in emerging sectors such as green energy, digital technology and sustainable infrastructure development.
Ambassador Skinnebach further indicated that stronger cooperation under the Global Gateway framework could help Ghana enhance productivity, improve competitiveness and accelerate its long-term development goals.
He also underscored the need for Ghana to maintain its political and economic stability, describing stability as a critical factor in attracting foreign direct investment and sustaining investor confidence.
The ambassador observed that European investors continue to pay close attention to governance systems, policy consistency and macroeconomic stability when making investment decisions in developing economies.
He therefore urged Ghanaians to actively participate in democratic governance processes and use their constitutional rights to hold leaders accountable in order to strengthen transparency and good governance.
According to him, accountable leadership and stable democratic institutions remain essential ingredients for economic growth, investor confidence and sustainable national development.
The Global Gateway initiative is the European Union’s strategy aimed at mobilising investments in infrastructure, energy, transport, health, education and digital transformation projects across partner countries, particularly in Africa.
