Peewezel Reflects on First TGMA Win

Award-winning Ghanaian music engineer and producer, Peewezel, has opened up about his journey in the music industry after winning the Best Record and Engineering Award at the 26th edition of the Telecel Ghana Music Awards.

Speaking in an exclusive interview on Highway 10.19 on ZED FM, Peewezel described the award as a major milestone in his career, although it was not his first nomination in the music industry.

“That was not my first nomination,” he disclosed while reflecting on his recognition for the hit production associated with musician A.I.

According to him, the recording process behind the award-winning project was both challenging and spiritually significant.

“You know music is spiritual. I remember the day we had to do the song. The lights went off and we had to wait for almost five to six hours before power was restored,” he recounted.

Peewezel explained that the team nearly abandoned the session before electricity finally returned, allowing production to continue.

“When the lights finally came on, we started rehearsals and went straight into the production. The song was recorded in just one take,” he revealed.

The producer noted that everyone in the studio sensed something unique about the song immediately after the recording session.

“After the production, we all felt there was something special and spiritual about the song. Even at the end of the video, we shouted because of what we experienced in the studio,” he said.

Despite finally winning a major award, Peewezel insisted that awards have never been his main motivation in music production.

“Years ago, I was hungry for awards and recognition, but I later realized there is more to music than winning awards,” he explained.

According to him, his ultimate goal has always been to create timeless music capable of lasting for generations.

“We still listen to Bob Marley’s music today and it still sounds fresh. That is the kind of music I want to produce,” he stated.

Peewezel admitted that he was not expecting to win the award and was surprised after receiving a call inviting him to attend the event shortly before the ceremony.

“I was really shocked. I was not expecting it at all,” he said.

The producer also revealed that he has received previous nominations in Ghana and internationally, including recognitions in South Africa and other African award schemes.

However, he stressed that producing quality and impactful music remains more important to him than financial rewards or trophies.

“I cherish good music more than money. I want to create songs that will last for years so that even my children will one day listen and say their father did well,” Peewezel added.
