BOA BMCE Group to Scale Up SME Support in Ghana

The Group Chief Executive of Bank of Africa BMCE Group, Amin Bouabid, has announced plans to expand the bank’s support for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) as part of efforts to boost job creation across its markets.

Mr. Bouabid made the announcement during an official visit to Ghana, where he engaged with key stakeholders, including clients, partners, and senior management of the bank. The visit was marked by a cocktail reception held in his honour.

According to him, SMEs remain central to economic transformation, particularly in addressing unemployment and strengthening local industries.

“SMEs, for us, is the future of the country, because this is a big recruiter, and it creates employment. And we know how much we suffer here in this country in terms of unemployment. So definitely we need to play the game and to go to SMEs to help this country develop the factories, the manufacturing industry, and not rely on import for basic goods,” he said.

He further stressed the need for increased financing and strategic support to enable SMEs to scale and contribute meaningfully to industrial growth.

“The idea is to go and to help SMEs, to finance them in order to start developing a lot of things. I think Ghana is one of the champions in the region. We are very happy with that, and we hope that this growth will continue for forever,” he added.

The renewed focus on SMEs aligns with broader efforts to deepen industrialisation and reduce dependence on imports, positioning Ghana as a competitive player within the region.
