By Praisebell Rosemond Larbi
MTN Ghana has reported a robust financial and operational performance for the 2025 financial year, with shareholders approving a higher dividend payout at the company’s 8th Annual General Meeting (AGM).
The meeting, held at the University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) in Accra on March 24, brought together shareholders, board members, and management to review the company’s performance and strategic outlook.
Board Chairman Dr. Ishmael Yamson noted that MTN Ghana’s performance was achieved despite a challenging global environment marked by geopolitical tensions and trade disputes.
“The global economy in 2025 faced intense volatility, shaped by escalating geopolitical tensions and US-led trade disputes, adding that global growth nonetheless reached 3.3% for the year, supported in part by investments in artificial intelligence and easing inflationary pressures,” he said.
Strong Financial Growth Across Key Metrics
Against this backdrop, MTN Ghana recorded a 36.1% increase in total revenue compared to 2024, driven by expansion in data services, mobile money, digital platforms, and voice offerings.
The company also posted a 43.5% rise in earnings before interest, tax, depreciation and amortisation (EBITDA), while profit after tax surged by 55.9%.
On the back of this strong performance, the Board recommended a final dividend of 40 pesewas per share, bringing the total dividend for 2025 to 48 pesewas per share. This represents approximately 81% of profit after tax and a 57.4% increase over the previous year.
Chief Finance Officer Antoinette Kwofie explained that the payout reflects both the company’s strong earnings and confidence in its future outlook.
She reiterated that MTN Ghana remains committed to distributing between 60% and 80% of profits as dividends, noting that the higher payout for 2025 was supported by exceptional operational performance.
Managing Costs and Strengthening Systems
Mrs. Kwofie attributed rising operational costs to strategic investments in growth areas such as fintech and home broadband, as well as employee share schemes linked to share price performance.
She also assured shareholders that the company is enhancing its risk management frameworks, particularly within mobile money operations, through improved fraud prevention systems and customer education initiatives.
On regulatory matters, she disclosed that audits by the Ghana Revenue Authority are ongoing, with management actively engaging authorities to resolve outstanding issues.
CEO Highlights Growth and Economic Recovery
Chief Executive Officer Stephen Blewett described 2025 as a year of strong performance, driven by disciplined strategy execution and improved macroeconomic conditions.
“I am pleased to report that 2025 was a year of robust operational and financial performance for MTN Ghana,” he stated.
He noted that easing inflation and a relatively stronger cedi helped boost consumer spending and investor confidence, contributing to the company’s growth.
MTN Ghana’s mobile money business remained a key driver, with revenue rising by 35.7% to GH¢6.0 billion, while active users increased by 12.3% to 19.3 million. The removal of the e-levy also supported growth by reducing transaction costs and encouraging wider adoption of digital financial services.
Outlook and Strategic Investments
Looking ahead, Mr. Blewett expressed optimism about Ghana’s economic stability in 2026, supported by controlled inflation and improved policy direction, although he cautioned that global uncertainties remain.
Despite these risks, he said MTN Ghana is well-positioned for sustained growth through continued investments in digital services, network expansion, and enhanced customer experience.
The company is also upgrading its myMTN and MoMo platforms to deliver more user-centric services, while strengthening cybersecurity systems to protect customers.
Commitment to Social Impact
Beyond its commercial operations, MTN Ghana reaffirmed its commitment to social development through the MTN Ghana Foundation, focusing on education, healthcare, and digital inclusion.
The company plans to expand access to quality education, support infrastructure development, promote digital literacy, and enhance healthcare delivery through facility upgrades and outreach programmes.
Appreciation to Stakeholders
MTN Ghana expressed gratitude to its customers, regulators, and shareholders for their continued support.
“To our customers, your loyalty and trust inspire us every day. To government and regulators, thank you for creating an enabling environment. And to our shareholders, your confidence drives our ambition,” the company stated.
The strong 2025 performance and increased dividend payout reinforce MTN Ghana’s position as a leading player in the telecommunications sector and a key contributor to Ghana’s digital and economic transformation.
