I am Still Paying Debts I Took to Promote Ebony – Bullet

Chief Executive Officer of RuffTown Records, Ricky Nana Agyemang, popularly known as Ebony, has disclosed that he is still paying off debts he incurred while promoting the late dancehall star Priscilla Opoku-Kwarteng, Ebony, during the early days of her career.

According to Bullet, Ebony’s rise to fame was built on significant financial sacrifice and personal risk, contrary to the public perception that the singer’s success quickly translated into wealth.

Speaking in an interview, the music executive explained that during Ebony’s lifetime, the team earned very little from music streams and live performances, making it difficult to recover the heavy investments made in promoting her music.

“When she was alive, we didn’t make streams. We were not even earning much from the shows we were playing,” he said.

Bullet noted that despite Ebony’s rapid rise to national recognition, the financial returns from her music were not immediate. He said the record label had to invest heavily in production, promotion, and branding before the artiste became widely known.

He revealed that he resorted to borrowing money from individuals to finance Ebony’s promotions and career development, a move he says he is still paying for today.

“I’ve invested a lot of money in her before she was able to get her fame. I took a loan from people just to promote her, but I doubt people know this. I’m still paying some of those loans now,” he stated.

Bullet also dismissed claims that he had disagreements with Ebony’s father over properties belonging to the late artiste. According to him, such reports were misleading and exaggerated.

“They were even saying I was fighting with Ebony’s dad over her properties. Which artiste in Ghana here has acquired properties in two years?” he questioned.

Ebony, who rose to prominence with several hit songs before her untimely death in 2018, remains one of Ghana’s most celebrated female musicians. Bullet’s revelation sheds light on the financial challenges and behind-the-scenes sacrifices often involved in building the career of a successful artiste in the Ghanaian music industry.
