My Boys Were Rushing – Kotoko Coach Laments Defeat to Hearts of Oak
Interim head coach of Asante Kotoko SC, Prince Yaw Owusu, has expressed disappointment over his side’s lack of composure following their 1-0 defeat to arch-rivals Accra Hearts of Oak.
Kotoko hosted the Phobians at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi but were undone by a decisive first-half strike from Baba Adamu. His header slipped past goalkeeper Mohammed Camara, handing Hearts a crucial lead.
The Porcupine Warriors were handed a numerical advantage after Emmanuel Amankwah was sent off in the first half. However, Kotoko failed to capitalise, struggling to break down a resolute Hearts defence marshalled by goalkeeper Benjamin Asare, who produced a solid performance between the posts.
Speaking after the game, Owusu, who was overseeing his first match in charge as interim coach, did not hide his frustration. He described the decisive moment as avoidable and pointed to a goalkeeping error as the turning point.
“Losing to Hearts has made the season very tough for us. The goal that came in was a goalkeeping blunder,” he admitted.
Owusu also criticised his players for rushing their play despite enjoying a man advantage, noting that poor decision-making in the final third cost them dearly in a fixture that carries enormous significance for both clubs and their supporters.
