Sports Minister to Speak at AIPS Africa Congress in Gambia

Minister for Sports and Recreation, Mr Kofi Iddie Adams, will be a guest speaker at the 8th Association of International Sports Press (AIPS) Africa Congress scheduled to take place in Banjul, The Gambia.

The Minister is expected to speak on the topic “The Role of Government in African Sports Development” at the Congress, which will be chaired by His Excellency Adama Barrow, President of the Republic of The Gambia.

Mr Adams will share the platform with several high-profile African sports administrators, including The Gambia’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Mr Bakary Y. Bajide; Nigeria’s National Sports Commissioner, Hon. Shehu Dikko; Mali’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Abdoul Kassim Ibrahim Fomba; and Senegal’s Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Khady Gaye.

During the Congress, the Ghanaian Sports Minister is also expected to engage with his counterparts to deliberate on key issues affecting sports development across the continent. Areas such as regional collaboration, sports infrastructure development, and athlete welfare are anticipated to dominate discussions.

The 8th AIPS Africa Congress will be held from February 6 to 9, 2026, under the theme “Digital Media, AI, and Ethical Journalism in Africa.” The event will take place at the Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara International Conference Centre in Bijilo.

The Congress aims to provide sports journalists with a platform to learn, network, and enhance their professional capacities.

Over the years, AIPS has played a pivotal role in protecting the rights of sports journalists, promoting professionalism and ethical standards, and building capacity through platforms that foster learning, networking, and the overall growth of sports journalism globally.
