Ibrahim Osman joins Birmingham City on season-long loan from Brighton
Birmingham City have secured the services of Ghanaian winger Ibrahim Osman on a season-long loan from Premier League side Brighton & Hove Albion, bolstering their attacking options for the remainder of the campaign.
The 21-year-old arrives at St Andrew’s after being recalled from his loan spell with French Ligue 1 outfit Auxerre, where he made 16 appearances and registered two assists during the first half of the season. Brighton have opted to place Osman in the English Championship to aid his continued development and help him adapt to the demands of English football.
Osman joined Brighton in 2024 from Danish club FC Nordsjaelland for a reported £16 million following strong competition for his signature across Europe. Prior to his move to the Premier League, the winger enjoyed a successful loan spell with Feyenoord, featuring 32 times across all competitions.
The Black Stars winger made a strong impression in the Netherlands last season, scoring three goals and providing three assists in 22 Eredivisie appearances, while also gaining valuable experience in Europe with seven outings in the UEFA Champions League.
A right-footed winger who is comfortable operating on either flank, Osman is expected to add pace, creativity and competition to Birmingham City’s wide areas. He will challenge established options Demarai Gray and Patrick Roberts as the Blues push for a strong second half of the season.
Osman becomes Birmingham City’s third loan acquisition from Brighton this term, following earlier deals for goalkeeper James Beadle and defender Eiran Cashin, who has since completed a permanent move to Blackburn Rovers. He is also the club’s third signing of the January transfer window, after the arrivals of Kai Wagner and Jhon Solís, as Birmingham continue to strengthen their squad ahead of the business end of the campaign.
