Absa Tops Employer Rankings in Ghana, Recognised Across Six African Markets

Absa has once again been named a Top Employer, securing the number one spot in Ghana and achieving certification across six African markets for 2026.

This marks the fifth consecutive year the bank has received recognition from the Top Employers Institute (TEI) for its excellence in human resource practices.

The group recorded an overall score of 93.66%, up from 90.15% in 2025, well above the global benchmark of 85.9%.

All six markets scored above 87%, with Absa Bank Botswana posting the largest year-on-year improvement of 5.53 percentage points. Ghana led the rankings with 97.38%, while Kenya and South Africa improved by 4.94 points each.

Absa Bank Zambia also recorded gains exceeding 4 percentage points, reflecting the group’s commitment to people-focused policies and practices.

“This recognition underscores the importance of clarity in the value organisations provide to employees, including purpose, culture, growth, and flexibility, alongside accountability and performance expectations. Our consistent approach to defining and communicating the Absa employee value proposition continues to resonate with our people across markets, said Jeanett Modise, Absa Group Chief Human Capital Officer.

Charles Russon, Group Executive for Africa Regions, emphasised that the growing number of markets achieving certification validates Absa’s people-first strategy.

“Absa Ghana’s number one ranking reflects strong leadership, culture and deliberate investment in our people to deliver for clients,” he added.

William Easmon, Human Capital Director for Absa Bank Ghana, said the recognition reflects “the trust, fairness and clarity employees experience daily. We remain committed to fostering a transparent and equitable workplace that values and respects our people.”

The assessment highlighted Absa’s full scores of 100% in Business Strategy, Leadership, and Performance, demonstrating consistent translation of strategy into practice.

Ethics and Integrity scored 99.49%, surpassing global and industry benchmarks, while the Work Environment scored 98.41%, more than 10% above global standards.

Notable year-on-year gains were achieved in offboarding (+18%), diversity, equity and inclusion (+11.34%), rewards and recognition (+8.78%), sustainability (+7.35%) and employer branding (+5.28%).

TEI’s Certification Program evaluates companies globally, using data-driven insights to enhance talent attraction, development, engagement, and retention strategies.

Absa’s performance reflects a data-led approach to understanding employee experiences, strengthening leadership development, inclusion, skills development, and retention, while sustaining a high-performance culture with an emphasis on wellbeing.

“Recognition for the fifth consecutive year validates the evolution of our culture and people practices. By aligning with our strategy, we equip employees to deliver excellence while supporting their growth and wellbeing,” said Modise.
