Health Minister Acknowledges Health Workers’ Sacrifice, Assures System Reforms in 2026

The Minister for Health, Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, has acknowledged the sacrifices of Ghana’s health professionals and reaffirmed government’s commitment to strengthening the country’s health system as the year draws to a close.
In a press statement issued on Wednesday, December 24, the Minister extended end-of-year greetings to Ghanaians and recognised the critical role played by doctors, nurses, midwives and other frontline workers in sustaining healthcare delivery, often under difficult conditions. “As we draw the curtains on the year, I extend warm greetings to all citizens, especially health professionals who continue to hold the system together through their dedication and professionalism,” Mr Akandoh stated.
He described the year as one of resilience and renewed focus, noting that deliberate efforts were made to improve access to quality healthcare, strengthen healthcare financing and address the welfare needs of the health workforce through collaboration with key stakeholders. The Minister expressed appreciation to traditional authorities, development partners, civil society organisations and other partners for supporting the Ministry of Health’s programmes and reforms throughout the year.
Despite ongoing challenges in the sector, Mr Akandoh said sustained cooperation among stakeholders has helped maintain service delivery across the country. He noted that health workers at all levels remain central to government’s healthcare agenda. “Your commitment continues to preserve lives and maintain public confidence in the health system,” he said.
Addressing concerns raised by health workers, the Minister assured them that government remains committed to resolving outstanding issues relating to conditions of service, logistics and other obligations through continued engagement with relevant institutions.
Looking ahead to the New Year, Mr Akandoh outlined key priorities including the expansion of health infrastructure, improved service delivery, strengthened preventive healthcare and the pursuit of equitable and affordable healthcare for all Ghanaians.
He urged citizens to adopt healthier lifestyles and support national disease prevention and health promotion programmes, and wished Ghanaians a peaceful end to the year and a prosperous new one.
