GRIDCo commences tie-in and test run of AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant

The Ministry of Energy and Green Transition has confirmed that the Ghana Grid Company Limited (GRIDCo) has started tie-in and test run operations to connect the new AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant to the national electricity grid.
In a press statement signed by Richmond Rockson, Esq., Spokesperson and Head of Communication at the Ministry of Energy and Green Transition, the Ministry stated that the activity is part of broader system enhancement efforts aimed at expanding Ghana’s power generation capacity and improving the reliability of electricity supply nationwide
According to the Ministry once fully integrated, the AKSA Ahwomaso Power Plant is projected to add about 141 megawatts (MW) to the national grid. This additional power is expected to strengthen electricity supply for households, businesses, and industries, particularly in the middle belt and other regions across the country.
The Ministry cautioned that during the tie-in and test run period, some areas may experience brief, temporary power interruptions. These interruptions, if they occur, will be carefully managed to ensure the safe and reliable operation of the transmission system.
Officials from the Ministry assured the public that the process is conducted in the national interest, emphasizing long-term system stability and improved electricity service delivery.
The Ministry further stated that collaboration with all relevant sector agencies will continue to maintain stable power supply throughout the Christmas period and beyond, as has been achieved for most of 2025.
