Policy Consistency Will Secure Ghana’s Economic Progress – Analyst

By: Solomon Nartey Tetteh
Economic Analyst Emmanuel Boateng has described Ghana’s current economic environment as one of renewed confidence and anchored expectations, citing tight fiscal and monetary coordination as key drivers of recent gains.
Speaking on Business Breakfast on Zed 101.9FM, Mr. Boateng said the broader Ghanaian economic architecture now reflects improved credibility, with many economic actors feeling positive about how far the country has come.
According to him, government’s cash management policies, together with the Central Bank’s tight monetary stance, have played a significant role in restoring confidence. He noted that the coordination between fiscal and monetary authorities has helped to anchor expectations, leading to what he described as “structural gains and structural improvements” in the economy.
Mr. Boateng also pointed to favourable external conditions supporting the recovery. He cited easing global inflation and improved commodity prices, particularly gold, which remains one of Ghana’s major export commodities. He noted that gold prices have hit multiple all-time highs this year, including another record recently, boosting export earnings and improving the country’s external position.
“These cyclical factors are very crucial and critical,” he explained.
The economic analyst cautioned that external conditions can easily reverse, with clear consequences for the local economy. He also warned that gains driven by favourable global trends may not be permanent unless Ghana takes deliberate steps to lock in progress.
The analyst emphasised the need for reforms to be institutionalised rather than driven by personalities. He underscored that policy consistency is more important than policy announcements alone, calling for sustained and predictable execution of economic policies.
He stressed that consistency would help ensure that businesses and other economic agents clearly understand Ghana’s long-term economic direction and how the country intends to move forward beyond the current recovery phase.
