Balotelli: “I can save Italy” – pushes for Azzurri return ahead of World Cup playoffs

Mario Balotelli has expressed his desire to return and save Italy’s struggling 2026 World Cup dream, which hangs on the thread of a playoff in March next year. The Italian superstar has sent a plea to head coach Genaro Gattuso via social media, seeking a chance to revive the national team’s World Cup hopes.
The former Manchester City and Liverpool striker, currently without a club, believes he can lead Italy to qualification for the 2026 World Cup in the US, Canada, and Mexico.
Italy, a four-time World Cup winner, missed out on automatic qualification, finishing behind Norway, who secured a spot in the tournament for the first time in 28 years. The Azzurri will now face a playoff tournament in March 2026 to secure their place in the global showpiece.
”Give me one last chance… I can save Italy and get them qualified!” Balotelli pleaded. The 35-year-old attacker, who chose to represent Italy despite having Ghanaian roots, made his debut in 2010 and racked up 14 goals in 36 appearances for the national team. He was instrumental in Italy’s Euro 2012 final run, where they narrowly lost to Spain.
Balotelli’s impressive record and experience make a strong case for his inclusion, but whether Italian gaffer and former football great Gattuso will consider adding him remains to be seen.
